BOOMERS, GEN XERS AND ME'S, OH MY!: LEARNING AND TEACHING ACROSS THE GENERATIONS

At no other time have there been four generations learning and teaching together in our schools! Each generation has its own unique set of characteristics and values. The newest generation of students entering school are Post 911 children who are being taught by Baby Boomers, Gen Xers and Millennials (the students in our middle schools and high schools are also Millennials, otherwise known as Gen Ys). In the 21st Century, teachers will be dealing with issues of technological and medical advances that are sure to impact their practices. In this course. you will learn how to recognize differences and keep pace with our students who are growing up in very advanced times.

This is a hybrid course, in which participants divide up their time between the half day morning or afternoon class day and the remaining assignment component to be completed outside class. The hybrid format will allow students to access a wider range of educational materials and gain more relevant knowledge to guide them in their profession.

The following Wisconsin Teaching Standards apply to this course:

T3. understands that students differ in their approaches to learning

    T9. is a reflective practitioner

   T10.
