Teach Me, I Dare You!

Virtually unheard of until recent years is the phenomenon of students who "check out" of school emotionally as early as kindergarten.  Sadly, working with students who are not motivated happens at all grade levels.  There are, however, remedies to this unfortunate situation.  This confidence-inspiring course will assist educators in understanding how this happens, what to do and why it is important to create positive learning environments.   Experience success with strategies and techniques for students who are considered "at-risk."  Become empowered when transforming those who disengage into committed students who reconnect with learning!

This is a hybrid course, in which participants divide up their time between the half day morning or afternoon class day and the remaining assignment component to be completed outside class. The hybrid format will allow students to access a wider range of educational materials and gain more relevant knowledge to guide them in their profession.

The following Minnesota Teaching Standards apply to this course:

Standard 2. Student Learning; understands how students learn and develop and provides appropriate learning  opportunities.

Standard 5. Learning  Environment; creates learning environments that encourage active  engagement in learning.

Standard 6. Communication; uses knowledge of effective verbal, nonverbal, and  media communication techniques to foster active inquiry in the classroom.
